Peaks was a librarian who worked in Sabatton Towers before he was murdered by Tendril.

Appearance[]

Peaks resembles an avian, presumably a parrot. He has white fur with patches of red fur around his head. Part of his fur stretches out like a feather from the back of his head. He has a long bushy tail matching his white fur. He has a red fur marking beneath each of his eyes. Half of his face is taken up by a beak. His hands are orange and somewhat bulky. He has white eyes with purple irises. He wears a large white cloak around his body with a grey sash going around him.

Personality[]

Peaks is a man of literature, hence his position as Sabbaton librarian. He is always helpful when directing young scholars to where they need to go in the library. If information turns out to be misplaced or even missing, he will express his displeasure while going on about how he would remedy the situation.

History[]

Prelude[]

Mr. Peaks has appeared once in Prelude so far, arguing with Nainso Ziska in the library over a footnote. Evzen is attempting to get a book on trade regulations, but Peaks and Nainso are too deep in their heated debate to notice him. Only when Evzen knocks a book off a shelf does Peaks acknowledge his presence.

Volume 1[]

Chapter 1[]

While Mace and Whip were out in the Margate District retrieving some Fermentae, Peaks could be seen dropping some scrolls on the ground.

Volume 3[]

Chapter 8[]

Lilith goes to Peaks in the library in an attempt to gain whatever information she can on the Nightmares. Peaks goes into the library's data-scroll database and gives Lilith directions on where to go to find her desired text. After Lilith asked if she could hide her bags behind the front desk and tried to explain the recent news stories, Peaks reassures her that he wasn't buying any of it and to have "happy hunting".

Later into the evening, as Peaks was closing the library, Lilith returns to him at the front desk revealing that the digital files she found were all duplicated and the books and scrolls had been removed entirely. Having been informed of this, Peaks turns around and proceeds into the library's repository with Lilith close behind. While inside, Peaks tells the legend of the Archives to Lilith and shows her the latch to the tube supposedly leading down into the Archives. Shortly after, Peaks leaves Lilith to continue closing up the library.

Chapter 9[]

As Lilith is searching for the missing copies of the text she was looking for, Peaks returned. Only it was Tendril using Peaks' gutted carcass as a disguise. Tendril had killed him outside of the repository.

As Lilith managed to escape the repository, she would find what was left of Peaks body behind the front desk.

While Tendril playfully chased Lilith through the library, Lilith made it back to Peaks's remains and grabbed one of his bones as a weapon. Tendril promptly snatches the bone away and eats it.

Back in the repository, after neutralizing Tendril by pulling his eyes out, Lilith takes the I.D. card from Peaks's carcass, apologizing to him while tear-stricken.

Trivia[]

  • Peaks would be only the third named character in the series to perish.
  • He would be one of several supporting characters to return in the series from his initial background appearance in Volume 1.

Quotes[]

  • (to Lilith): "If the news ever starts talking sense, perhaps I'll countenance listening - in the meanwhile, happy hunting."
  • (to Liltih): "Well, that's rather generic, isn't it?"
  • (to Lilith): "I suppose most obscure of literary legends could be an easily apt identifier."
